High Power Binoculars
Time to buy a new pair, this time I think I will get high power binoculars with top quality glass lenses ( they say that the lenses make a difference), with a high level of magnification, seven or eight should work for me, anti-reflection coating and sturdy construction – I wonder if they make them child proof as well? I looked at a few pairs of high power binoculars and tried them out; these high power binoculars were so different from my father’s pair which had been quite old. The crystal clear vision through them was amazing! I found a pair of high power binoculars that I really liked, they were strong, a price that fitted my budget and a well known brand that was trusted to produce quality products.
I tested my new high power binoculars from the balcony that night, the stars were clearer than I had ever seen them, the traffic on the interstate was very slow (I didn’t know I could see the interstate from here) and what was that woman doing in that apartment over…okay enough testing! My high power binoculars work very well and my wife Sheila was telling me that dinner was ready. We sat down and ate our meal; Tim was restless and kept playing with his food so I let him out of his high chair to play with his toys on the floor.
Enjoying a coffee after dessert and Sheila pointed with a horrified look on her face. I looked to where she was pointing and Tim had my new high power binoculars and was holding them up to his eyes like daddy does, I had left them on the coffee table which was well within Tim’s reach. Not wanting a repeat of the destruction of previous pair I quietly asked him to give them to me – reaching out my hand. Tim smiled and went to hand them over then with a gurgle he snatched them back and ran around the room, he wanted me to chase him. I figured as long as we kept away from the balcony we would be fine so I chased him till he threw the binoculars back over his head. They hit me in the nose and bounced off onto the tiled, kitchen floor.
I of course didn’t have time to catch them. I picked them up they didn’t look damaged but I wanted to be sure. I went outside and focused the high power binoculars on the street below, no scratches or cracks the high power binoculars had escaped unscathed. About to turn away I noticed some movement in the seven eleven across the street. I focused on the inside of the store and the shopkeeper jimmy who we knew well had his hands above his head and a masked man was holding a gun to him while a second man was cleaning out the cash register.
I called out to Sheila and told her to call the police because Jimmy was being robbed; I kept watching to see what was happening. Shelia joined me outside and told me the police were on the way and I could hear sirens approaching. The two robbers made Jimmy lie on the floor and they hurried out of the shop, removing their masks when they came outside. They started walking away slowly to be inconspicuous but I had good view of their faces through my high power binoculars.
As the police arrived I put down my high power binoculars and ran downstairs to see if Jimmy was okay. He was standing outside the store talking to the police a bit shaken but not hurt. I told him that I had called the police as I had seen the robbery from my balcony three floors above. The police asked if would recognize the thieves and when I said yes we all went to the police station and the police artist drew their likeness from the description I gave her.
A couple of weeks later when I was returning from a day of bird watching with my high power binoculars the police asked me to look at a line-up, they thought that they had found the thieves but they needed me to ID them to lay charges. There were six people in the line-up and the two that had robbed Jimmy were easy to pick out. I had seen their faces clearly through my high power binoculars. They were charged and we are waiting to go to court.
Jimmy is really thankful and I am quite pleased with my new high power binoculars. I had bought them to watch birds which they are excellent for but they also helped me to identify the two thieves that robbed Jimmy and get them off the street. Now that’s what I call a good investment. Oh and I bought a toy pair of binoculars for Tim and he now shows no interest in mine, though I am very careful not to leave my high power binoculars lying around.
